Big pimpin' on Halloween

But where to go, what to do and who to do it with?

The Desert Sun has complied a list of holiday parties beginning tonight through Tuesday.

Tonight

Zeldaz Dance Club and Beach Club, 169 N. Indian Canyon Drive, Palm Springs 325-2375

Operating for almost 30 years, Zeldaz will hold it's annual "Pimp & Ho Halloween Ball" tonight.

Anyone who's been to Zeldaz knows the club motto, "What happens at Zeldaz stays at Zeldaz" - and that's just on regular nights.

A lot can happen at a Pimp & Ho party, but you'll probably be too ashamed to talk about in the next morning.

There will also be a $500 costume contest for the best pimp and ho.

Biometric scans served up with school meals

Establishing a more reliable WebCT service

Most students have noticed that WebCT has not been working properly over the past four weeks.
For the classes that simply use it for discussion and posting of assignments, this does not create much of a problem. However, for classes such as Professor Barry Joe's first year German course and his computer mediated communications course, which are structured around the use of WebCT, the past four weeks have proven to be quite difficult.
"I have integrated WebCT and its online capacities into the pedagogical strategies I use to deliver all of my courses. From holding synchronous virtual Office Hours to assigning a nominal grade for the communal posting of class minutes, I ensure that I maintain a broad range of communication with my students," said Joe.
"In my beginners' german language course, in particular, I have also woven the on-line evaluation capabilities of the system into my pedagogical strategy for second-language acquisition.

An Intro To OpenSim, the Apache of Virtual Worlds
ajohnj1 writes with an excerpt from Ostatic: "You've probably read a bit about OpenSim, the BSD-licensed virtual world server, and recent news that IBM and Linden Lab are working to make Second Life and Open Sim interoperable. Besides that project, what's Open Sim about, who's working on it, what are they doing with it, and how do you get involved as a developer and participant? Here's a starter's guide."

OLPC Physics Game Jam For an XO
Brian Jordan writes "For 48 hours during the weekend of August 29-31 at the OLPC Physics Game Jam Boston, game developers will compete in teams of 2-4 to design and implement a physics-based game for the One Laptop per Child XO laptop. There are prize categories for indie, professional, and remote developers (Ludum Dare style). In addition to OLPC/Jam-related swag for all participants, one team will win an XO laptop. Participants should have some game development experience, but we'll be going over the development process during the event — read below for details. If you'll be in the Boston area this weekend, or want to participate remotely, sign up before August 22. If you're a graphic artist, sound designer, musician in the Boston area, or want to be a volunteer, get in touch." Click the magic link for details of the crash course in game programming being offered.
